Course Outline

This course presents students with important computer skills required to be successful and secure using a computer at home and at school. Students learn in a hands-on approach. Students learn programs to a higher level of their experience(PowerPoint and Word) and start fresh with new programs like Excel Spreadsheets. All programs used in this course is to give an introduction to the computer world and help the student with his studies. The program Inspiration is introduced to help students organize ideas, thoughts through graphs or through text. PowerPoint helps students make presentations of research. Web designing online helps with developing innovative projects for the teacher and others. Scratch helps students learn the fundamentals of Programming to make computerized games. Students start to use FirstClass, the email system set up for every student in the district. They learn how to email in assignments from home, so work can be completed on time. They learn how to email teachers at school. They are taught safety for emailing as well as safety while using the Internet. Students learn to view Internet sites with knowledge to make decisions of what is authentic online and what is bias.

Students are expected to leave this course with a strong understanding of computer ownership, ethics with online material, safety online and understanding both computers and the computer world out there. Safety is key in all these areas.
